Active Membership

Any trained full-time, sworn law enforcement officer with arrest power who is employed by a government entity may become a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

If you are a law enforcement officer and wish to join the Fraternal Order of Police you should contact the Baystate FOP lodge,. Lodge 30 draws its members over 40 agencies.

If your union or association would like to create your own lodge; you will need to contact the State Lodge in your state or the National Lodge.

A popular alternative to starting your own lodge is to enroll all eligible agency members in the Baystate lodge. Members receive all the benefits, while the group avoids the process and requirments of starting and maintaining a lodge.

You may as an alternative, fill out the attached form and send it to the Baystate Lodge We will then have someone contact you. This process could take a couple of weeks.

Associate Membership (FOPA)

The FOPA is a civilian affiliate of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). Our members are friends and families of law enforcement Officers, responsible and respected business persons, professional men and women, and citizens from all walks of life—people willing to devote a portion of their time and efforts toward assisting the various law enforcement agencies of our communities, states and nation.

The FOPA's interests revolve around law enforcement and the men and women that have dedicated their lives to the protection of ours.

The FOPA actively supports legislation, charitable causes, and all law enforcement efforts on a local, state and national level.

Effective June 4, 2007, dues are increased to $50/year.

Member Benefits

Insurance Benefits   PDF Document
The National FOP offers group life insurance, legal defense, lodge liability insurance, dental and vision care, cancer care, prescription drug discounts, disability income protection, and retirement programs.

Accidental Death Insurance
One of the main benefits when you become a member of the Massachusetts FOP is the death benefits that you receive. The killed in the line of duty death benefits could be as mush as $30,000. These benefits also cover off duty incidents and retired members are also covered. Please take a look at the attached insurance information. This insurance is paid for by the State Lodge from our fund raising. We also grant a large amount of scholarships to member's children & grandchildren and that program is expanding this year also.

Legal Defense Fund

The National FOP also runs its own Legal Defense Fund. To become a member of the FOP Legal Defense Fund you must be an FOP member and a working law enforcement officer. The cost of the Legal Defense Fund is only $215.00 a year ($18 per Month). One of the great parts of the FOP plan is you don't have to use just certain attorneys. You can choose your own attorney or you can pick from the list of attorneys that are on the plan. If you want a certain attorney, but he isn't on the plan a small amount of paperwork filled out by your attorney and submitted will put him on board. Those attorneys on the Legal Defense Plan will be paid $125.00 per hour. We have found entire departments have dropped from other legal defense funds and joined the FOP's plan and got their attorney that they are comfortable with to join the plan. Please take a look at the attached paperwork about the FOP Legal defense Plan or learn about the plan on-line at
